Exploring Europe: Munich, the Danube, and Budapest

Our recent European trip started with two nights in Munich, the heart of Bavaria. I absolutely love schnitzel, and Munich did not disappoint! We also enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the Glockenspiel Café, overlooking the famous Glockenspiel in Marienplatz. Walking the historic square, sampling local dishes, and taking in the architecture made Munich a perfect start to our journey.

After Munich, we took the train to Vilshofen, a scenic ride that set the tone for our river adventure, and boarded our AmaWaterways Danube River Cruise for seven nights. Highlights included Salzburg, where we hiked to the top of the fortress for incredible views, and Vienna, where the Christmas markets were open, we toured Schönbrunn Palace, and yes—more schnitzel! Cruising along the Danube, we enjoyed charming riverside towns, fairytale castles, and great local wines. Our cruise was comfortable, with excellent service and a well-paced itinerary.

Our trip ended with two nights in Budapest. We visited the Dohány Synagogue and St. Stephen’s Church, and walked across the Chain Bridge, which we highly recommend for its views. Between sightseeing, walking tours, and exploring each city, we averaged 15,000 steps a day! Budapest was the perfect way to conclude a journey filled with history, culture, and memorable experiences.
